The closing date for entries for the livestock and equine sections at the 2016 Royal Cornwall Show is less than a week away.

This year is the show’s 223rd anniversary and it is widely regarded as one of the country’s finest agricultural shows and the clock is ticking for those wishing to compete at this year’s event.

Entries close on Monday 18th April for the cattle, pig, sheep and fleece sections of the show.

With hundreds of classes for competitors to take part in, all roads will lead to Wadebridge on 9, 10 & 11th June. Thousands of exhibitors will be hopeful of securing a coveted rosette or picking up some silverware.

The large number of quality classes at the Royal Cornwall is a demonstration of the organisers’ determination to stick firmly to the show’s agricultural roots.

This steadfast commitment has paid off and levels of entry remain as strong as ever with entrants coming from far and wide to compete for honours.

Last year’s show saw 1219 sheep entries which was the second highest on record with fleece entries remaining at a consistent level.

The pig section enjoyed similar success and received a total of 213 entries. This equated to the section’s third highest entry.

The cattle section was fully subscribed and enjoyed more than 630 entries in 2015. The show’s organisers are hoping that a similar number of cattle, pig, sheep and fleece entries will congregate at the Wadebridge showground this June.

Christopher Riddle, Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association secretary said:

“Agriculture is right at the heart of the Royal Cornwall and the competitive livestock showing sections are the show’s cornerstones.

“We are hopeful that entries will be as strong again this year within the livestock and equine sections.

“We have exhibitors travelling great distances to compete here. Wherever people come from one and all are assured a warm Cornish welcome and three enjoyable days.”

Interest in the horse section will be high again. The equine section is always strong and a highly competitive range of classes are on offer.

Entries for the equine section, which last year attracted over 1300 entries, will also close on the same day as the livestock classes.
