It was love at first sight for two young pigs who were introduced at an RSPCA centre after both were rescued by the charity.

Wilbur was found by the Metropolitan Police running loose on the A4 in Hammersmith, west London, in the early hours of November 5.

She was caught by the officers and taken into Putney Animal Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries to her ear and neck.

The little pig - nicknamed Wilbur by Putney staff, after the character in Charlotte’s Web - was then moved to the RSPCA’s Lockwood Centre for Horses & Donkeys, in Wormley, Surrey, where she has since made a new friend.

Centre manager Anna Hemmings said: “She was very shy and timid when she arrived, cowering in the crate and not making any noise.

“But once she was placed into her new garden enclosure she slowly started to relax and settle into her surroundings.

“She seemed very pleased to have the company of our other pig, Piwi, in the pen next door.”

Piwi was found by a dog walker having been abandoned in woods in London Colney, Hertfordshire.

The two pigs are thought to be of a similar age - between three and six-months-old - and are both believed to be Vietnamese pot belly cross-types.

Anna added: “Once Piwi has been castrated we hope to mix these two together and find them a loving new home as a pair.”
