Gardeners have the chance to grow their skills with a fabulous new range of courses at the Eden Project. From foraging in summer to gardening in small places, a whole host of green-fingered activities are on offer, all led by members of Eden’s expert horticulture team.

'Plants for Free' comes in two parts (May 9 and October 23). The first will include learning how to effectively and sustainably collect seeds, store and sow them for maximum success. The second part will include learning how to produce free replicas of plants in the garden.

'Successful vegetable growing' (May 16) and 'Successful fruit growing' (May 23) will explore how to grow ready-to-eat vegetables and fruits throughout the year.

Scything for beginners (June 5) allows visitors to combine healthy outdoor exercise with a sustainable method of vegetation control. During this course there will be knowledgeable training from Eden’s scything expert, Kevin Austin.

What to do in the garden in summer (July 4), autumn (October 3), and winter (January 9) is a series of courses that will guide gardeners to manage their spaces effectively throughout the year.

Gardening in small spaces (August 1) will include learning a variety of simple and inventive tips. The aim is to teach growers not to feel limited by tiny areas, such as patio gardens, courtyards and pocket handkerchief-sized plots.

Scything for improvers (September 11) is for gardeners who have completed the beginner scything course and wish to progress to the next stage. This course will include a guide to sharpening and maintaining a scythe.

Pruning made easy (November 21) teaches how to handle overgrown plants and put some simple rules in place to follow when pruning time comes around.

Hedge-laying for beginners (November 26 & 27) is making a comeback too. This two-day practical course will explain the basics of hedge-laying and why it is better for the environment than using a hedge-trimmer.

Woodland management (January 14 & 15) is another two-day course. It is a practical guide to looking after trees, and the wildlife that’s dependant on them, as well as potentially producing an income or materials for hobbies.

Steve Burrell, Horticulture education manager, said: “Our courses offer a great way for new and improving gardeners to hone their skills. They are all led by knowledgeable and friendly horticulturists in the spectacular setting of Eden. You can’t fail to be inspired!”

Two-day courses are £100, scything and foraging courses are £50 and all other courses are £30. Some courses will have limited spaces available and have variations in time, so booking is recommended.
