Culm Valley Young Farmers Club recently held their annual Harvest Supper at Culmstock Village Hall to celebrate the end of another successful year. The evening highlights included a very entertaining speech from guest speaker Chris Berry, Devon YFC Chairman.

The Club also used the occasion to present a cheque for £3410 to local charity, Devon Air Ambulance. The money was raised throughout the year with carol singing, an Easter bingo, cake stalls as well as their Late Summer Ball held at Bridwell Park which was the largest fundraiser.

The club would like to thank the kind people who gave donations towards the ball including Agritec, Mount Vets and Nigel Howe.

The evening was also a chance for the club to celebrate members achievements during the year with a presentation of awards. The awards were given as follows: Most Points (Over 18) – Michelle Batting & James Westcott, Most Points (Under 18) – Emily Emmett, Sporting Endevour – James Westcott, Boys Sports 1st James Westcott 2nd Mark Snell, Girls Sports – 1st Louisa Squire 2nd Maggie Palmer, Best New Female Member – Emily Emmett, Best New Male Member – Toby Eve, Best Public Speaker – Kirsty Reed, Most Improved Public Speaker – Patrick Parish, Special Awards went to Patrick Parish, Emily Davis & Georgina Pengelly for their recent achievements within Junior Public Speaking.

Subsequently Culm Valley YFC have held their AGM where members have voted for their new officers for the coming year, with James Westcott & Michelle Batting taking over as Chairman and Secretary respectively.

They will be holding a New Members Evening on Monday November 10 at Forbes Lounge, Hemyock 8pm for anyone in interested in joining or wanting to find out more about young farmers.
