Top UK competitors will be taking part in Devon County Show’s Lamb Shearing and Dog Trials Event on Sunday August 10 at Sidbury, near Sidmouth.

Show Secretary Ollie Allen said everyone was welcome to come along and watch the action which takes place on a working farm throughout the day.

The free-of-charge event will showcase talented shearers and sheep dog handlers who will put their skills and strength to the test as they compete to do the best job in the fastest time.

Ollie added: “Sheep shearing and wool production play an important part in Devon farming and the competitions are a great spectacle to watch - top competitors can shear a sheep in less than a minute!

“Visitors will also be able to enjoy the sight of some of the area’s elite shepherds and their dogs in action in the sheepdog trials where the combination of handlers, dogs and sheep can create competitions packed with action and drama. This really is a lovely, on farm event, which offers visitors a few hours of relaxation in a beautiful Devon setting. ”

The event is being held by the kind permission of Sir John and Lady Cave and Alan Derryman. The Devon County Agricultural Association is very grateful to them for allowing it to hold the event at Home Farm.

Competitions start from approximately 9.30 am and carry on until approximately 5pm; refreshments will be available all day.

Home Farm, Sidbury is on the A375 Honiton to Sidmouth road; follow the event signs. The event is free for all visitors.
