The Hampshire Down Sheep Breed Champion was awarded to H.C. Derryman & Sons of Yarcombe with an untrimmed ram lamb at the Royal Bath & West Show.
Trophies were presented by Ben Marshall of Woolley & Wallis Shaftesbury office. Breed judge, Kevin McCarthy of County Down, Northern Ireland had a keen eye for animals that in addition to all the breed characteristics of good legs, hooves, confirmation and mouth also had a tight wool and length of loin. He also looked for entries that would meet the needs of the commercial market.
Leading firm of land agents and chartered surveyors Woolley & Wallis sponsored the Hampshire Down Sheep Class when all categories were well supported by the number of entries.
Woolley & Wallis have had a longstanding relationship with the Hampshire Down breed; Major Richard Woolley was instrumental in the firm becoming the official auctioneers for the Hampshire Down Breed Association at the all-important Wilton Sheep Fair.
