Around 400 Somerset school children will get the opportunity to find out how the milk they drink is produced at a special ‘Moos, Milk’ event on Friday 5 June.
The children, from 12 schools across West Somerset, will be visiting Eric and Lucy Parker’s farm near Minehead to see how their 160 ‘moos’ turn grass into milk. They will have the chance to learn about everything that happens on a modern dairy farm, from seeing the milking parlour and meeting the young calves right through to sampling some of the many products produced from milk.
Displays from environmental charity the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) will show them how the farm combines producing high-quality milk with looking after the environment.
Around 40 people will be helping to give the children a special day out, which will conclude with short, lively church service led by local vicars.
Eric Parker said: “We are really looking forward to telling the children all about dairy farming and showing them how milk is produced.”
