A DairyCo survey has found that almost one in 10 dairy farmers are considering quitting the sector in the next two years.

The annual DairyCo's Farmer Intentions Survey reports that milk producers have lost confidence in the industry over the past year, with 9% planning to quit within the next two years.

“The number of GB dairy farmers intending to increase production in the next two years was 32%, down from 36% in 2012,” says the report.

“Meanwhile, the proportion of farmers who were undecided on production levels two years hence increased from 5% in 2012 to 13% this year. This is likely to be a function of the difficulties faced during the 2012/13 milk year and the continued uncertainty on operating conditions for the upcoming year. The proportion of farmers intending to leave the industry in the next two years also increased in 2013, rising from 7% last year to 9% in the current survey.”
